The Lucky Ones

**** 4/5 "A film you never want to end"

The lucky ones stars Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Micheal Pena. It is about three soldiers who are on leave from Iraq for a month because they were injured during the war. However it is not your typical film that revolves partly around the iraq war it does not bore the audience with details and facts about what is happening in Iraq this film does not do that. Yes it is a serious matter but personally when watching a film I just don't want to be told about these things until I'm blue in the face and I am reaching for the remote and pressing eject on the dvd player. This film is a character film and is all about the characters getting to know one another (as at the beginning they are strangers) and it is about how people treat them in america and how america has changed since they have been gone. The film is 108 mins and does not drag at all if anything it is not long enough as I found myself wishing the film would never end. The film is a road trip movie and at first I thought it was simply going to be their trip home in the car and they stop off at a few places and the end would be when they arrive home however it is nothing like this as when they arrive home some of the characters realise that it has changed so much since they have been gone that it is not really their home any more and the story changes in direction. Overal a must see film especially if your a fan of Rachel McAdams (The notebook, Shirlock holmes, Time travellers wife, State of Play) or Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River).
